mind·ful·ness
ˈmīn(d)f(ə)lnəs
noun: mindfulness
  1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
"their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition"
  2. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

Mindfulness is NOT...

…about having a completely empty mind.

…to remove stress.

…stopping all thoughts.

…being able to repress feelings or emotions.

…about being calm.

…about being complacent.

…doing things slowly.

…a religion.

…a magic “pill” to solve all of my woes.

…supposed to make me happy.

These things MIGHT be an outcome of mindfulness, but it is not the goal.

Mindfulness is about...

...being aware the the mind has thoughts.

...awareness of how stress affects the body.

...being aware that your mind is having thoughts.

...awareness of feelings.

...noticing when we are not calm.

...being aware of our movements whether fast or slow.
